Digital Illustrations

All of my illustrations are hand-drawn. I never use cartoon filters.

Holiday Card, Liz is all biz

For this project, a client reached out hoping to do an illustrated holiday card to replace their yearly in-person photoshoot. They wanted the theme to be relevant and 2020-appropriate, so they asked that I come back with a few themes to choose from.

The theme that resonated most was “Write On”, an idea centered around the millions of Americans that found their voice in 2020 through protest signs. Many protests were powerful, like raising awareness about police brutality or the removal of native Hawaiians from their sacred lands. Other protests were a bit more ludicrous, like opposing barbershop closures.

Whatever the cause, 2020 was a year of being heard and we wanted to show that with this holiday card.

Each employee also got a digital copy of their image.

BHM apparel, piccolina kids

Piccolina Kids reached out to collaborate on their Black History Month merchandise. They wanted a t-shirt design depicted Marian Anderson, the American Contralto who was the first African American to sing at a Presidential inauguration. I proposed a design that depicted the Lincoln Memorial in the background, to commemorate her historical feat in such a prominent location. The design had a limit of 7 colors.

Family Independence Initiative, Non-Profit

The FII reached out wanting to create a digital annual report. After a group discovery session, we landed on a direction we loved. I created assets to illustrate the incredible statistics the FII was seeing with their families. I was told the revamped annual report was very well received by stakeholders and funders.

ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS, EDGE INSTITUTE

In 2020, The Nonprofit Quarterly compiled a group of diverse thought leaders who would share ideas to enact social change, called the Edge Institute. I was approached to create an overall brand look & feel, as well as illustrate soundbites of their roundtable discussions.

With the Edge Institute’s brand identity, the idea was simplicity. So, I approached the illustrations using a one-stroke line drawing technique. There are certainly cheats here and there, but many of these illustrations are created without picking up the pencil.

Challenge of diversity in the environmental mvmt, Nonprofit Quarterly

While working at The Nonprofit Quarterly, I illustrated a video-poem by Dr. Dorceta Taylor, a professor at the Yale University School of the Environment. The audio engineering was done by Amy Costello, host of Tiny Spark podcast.

Creative County

These illustrations were some (among hundreds) done for Creative County, a community foundation building a stronger arts and culture ecosystem in Essex County, Massachusetts.

Interaction Institute For Social Change, Non-Profit

When IISC approached, they wanted illustrations for their workbook that could convey the complex ideas discussed in their courses. We decided on a direction that included elements like circles and dotted lines to convey emotion and represent movement.
