Walmart Beauty

Walmart wanted to announce the arrival of new eyeshadow palettes just in time for spring. So when they approached us about an idea to get outlets to write about the launch, I simply suggested gifting all the palettes at once. And my agency gave me a room and a blow torch to do it.

CRUSHING IT

This project took 67 eyeshadow palettes to complete. And meant hours of crushing and crumbling powdered makeup.

SHADOW BOx

The makeup was emptied into shadow boxes over a canvas backing. I tried to create interesting shapes with each color and include a good mix of bright colors and nudes.

THE LINE UP

All in all, filling the boxes took about 7 hours.

Just ENCASE

In order to encase the makeup without disturbing the crumble pattern, I slowly poured a resin over the makeup. I used an epoxy resin to ensure that it wouldn't mix with the pigments in the eyeshadow.

Resin bubbles easily when applied over porous material. Unfortunately piles of cosmetic powder are very porous. So, the get rid of the bubbles, I ran a blow torch over the shadow boxes every 5 mins for about two hours.

FINAL TOUCHES

After 24 hours of drying, I finished each box by placing a vinyl di-cut sticker over the glass. The finished products were then gifted to the respective outlets.
